The inability of a man to have and maintain erection during
sexual intercourse is called Erectile
Dysfunction. Most men receive this dysfunction in their
40s. There are people who suffer from chronic or complete
dysfunction and others partial or brief erections. Frequent
erectile dysfunction can cause emotional and relationship
problems, and often leads to diminished self-esteem. Erectile
dysfunction has many causes, most of which are treatable, and is
not an inevitable consequence of aging. A new problem that is
associated with ED is very unusual and unknown. Studies have
revealed that cycling could be one of the causes of ED. Seems
strange but it is a fact now. Riding a bike or cycling causes
genital discomfort. The reason behind this is the strain we
receive in the genitals after prolonged riding and cycling.
Sitting for a long time on any two-wheeler restricts or lessens
the flow of blood into the penis, which causes the problem.
However, it is still very mild and affects only those who ride
for a longer period. A man sitting on a saddle during cycling
and riding a bike, transfers his whole weight on the main penile
artery, this restricts the flow of blood for some time. The
repetition in the process causes Erectile Dysfunction.

The fear of getting prone to ED has affected people who actively
participated in cycling competitions and also those who used
cycle as a means of transportation. Different studies have shown
that the problem exists and people have been affected by this
phenomenon. One who travels long distances on a cycle is more
prone to the danger as compared to a normal person who is
cycling for a shorter period. Heavy weight persons are advised
not to ride a cycle for long period. 

Precaution is the only way a person can protect himself against
any discrepancy. It is better to remain alert and aware before

measures are:

·	When cycling, do not sit continuously for a long time. Get up
from the seat after some interval.
