Steve Smith: The Panthers' Claw

By: Julie Smith

Carolina Panthers' Steve Smith is considered the Michael Jordan
of the NFL after he decided to take the last game against
Chicago Bears in his own hands and surprised everyone taking the
breath out of the crowd.

The NFL player caught 12 passes for 218 yards and two
touchdowns; his 12 receptions tied for the second most in a NFL
playoff game. Smith scored a 39-yard touchdown on a pass in the
third quarter, after cornerback Chris Thompson fell while
chasing him down the sideline, and Smith's 22-yard run off a
reverse midway through the fourth helped the Panthers hold off
Chicago on a NFL game that ended 29 - 21 with a victory for
Carolina.

It should have been a hard game since Carolina's leading rusher
DeShaun Foster's right ankle was broken on a tackle by
linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer early in the third quarter.

On the next NFL game, Smith will show his abilities playing
against the Seattle Seahawks. Next Sunday will be a different
challenge because the Seahawks understand the importance of
taking away an opponent's biggest threat. We'll see if Steve
Smith's inspiration remains.
